I recently heard that AMI Instant Roadbed was no longer available. I want to use it to model an asphalt road using a techinque in an old magaine. I read a post on another site about a product similar to instant roadbed used in the heating/cooling industry and available at home improvement stores and heating and cooling dealers. Does anyone have any idea what i am reffering to and what it is called? It is a sticky black material very much like instant roadbed. Any help is appreciated. Thanks…
In the old days of the empire we called it dum-dum - a very thin sticky type is still available and should be avoided as it is a pain to work. The stuff you want is still used for HVAC work and is available in rolls - probably the same stuff as AMI provided. If you look around you can probably still find the odd roll of Instant Roadbed laying around an LHS - I’ve found three rolls in the past few months - enough to finish my track work. J.R.
That is what the AMI stuff was. Try calling a local heating and cooling repair place. That stuff worked great for filling up garbage cans!
