Amlink

Actually have two fairly recent, sort of curious pics to share. The first is from 2005, when heavy rains forced Metrolink (our local commuter service in LA) to borrow an Amtrak P42. Only time I’ve ever seen a P42 pulling Metrolink cars.

Second is from a year later in 2006, at the famous Rendondo Loop in Baja California, Mexico. I was on a rare passenger excursion, when I saw the escort speeder in front of us, way down the loop, and I managed to get this shot of it with the telephoto. It says Baja Califorinia Great For You on the side.

Anyway, sort of unrelated, but fun stuff to share.

Thanks for looking,

Great shots as usual. I always enjoy reading your posts.

I assue the reason the heavy rains caused Metrolink to borrow a P42 was that the rails were slippery and the Metrolink F59s either didn’t have the tractive effort or advanced wheel-slip programs to work right on wet rails?

Tyler,

Thanks for the kind words.

As to the P42, I think it was actually much simpler than that. I believe that Metrolink just didn’t have enough units available and the closest available place to borrow power from was Amtrak’s 8th Street Yard. That being said, however… I have to admit that I am guessing. I don’t honestly know for sure.

Your photos are always interesting Charles.
