Amount of train spotting

I see around 2-4 trains a day seeing that my school is right next to a CP rail mainline.[:D] It is very exiting to see AC4400s, SD90MACs, and SD40-2s everyday.

Just last Friday i had a math test and i was sat next to the window, and 2 SD90MACs came by; one CEFX leaser, and the other was a union pacific (that was rare)

Twice i have seen just 2 locomotives (no cars) going down the tracks.

I used to see the Western Maryland, Chessie all the time till the branch running through my end of town closed. That was a sad day. [:(] Now I have to go across town to the old PRR line to see any trains on the highline. Rarely do I do that.

I live a 1/2 mile from a Kansas City Southern line with BNSF trackage rights. If you asked me how often I hear a train, I would reply; “all the time!” Most of the time all I can see is if it’s a KCS or BNSF train from where I live. In the winter I can cut across a few fields and see a train if I’m lucky. I’m going to RAILROAD HEAVEN, a.k.a. GALESBURG, ILLINOIS this summer. Then I can train watch in the biggest rail yard in Illinois at Galesburg RR Days. [:D]

2-5 a day on the WSOR , Weekends usualy varies, Today only one about 6:30 am . They must have been close to notch 8 heavy w / 6 units & one unit appeared to be from the DM&E. Unless I travel to Watertown Wi. to see the CP rails SOO LINE division if you can call it that. They can have alot of traffic at times.

I live less than 2 miles from the mainline but with running here and there, errands etc., I “hear” the trains “loud and clear” more than I see them as horn sounds resonate well in my area. This where I have fun trying to figure what type of horn is blowing (K5, S5, S3, etc)[:D][8D][8)][4:-)][C):-)][swg][tup]

I have to go out of my way to find them, but when I do, I see a lot!!![:D]

[wow] you can tell wich type of horn is sounding? I am having trouble to recognise an entire locomotive type!

My work is properly situated for just this “problem”.
I have a good spot for for CN’s Kingston sub & CP switching GM’s Oshawa plant from work & having to cross CP’s Belleville sub inbetween home & work so it’s usually a train fest for me everyday.
It’s not desirable, but someone had to do it!!! [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

Gordon

P.S.

This doesn’t include the twice hourly GO train & the onslaught of VIA trains all day including the Enterprise waiting in Oshawa when I get to work!!!
DAMN, my life sucks!!! [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D]

I see around 12 trains a day and hear more then that…You see I can look out my kitchen widow and see NS’s Sandusky line.

I can hear trains every 30 minutes or so, but I go down to see them about 2 to 3 times a week.

Why don’t trolleys count???

12-15 a day.

I live about 4 football fields away from CN’s mainline

I’m on the very end of the WSOR’s Reedsburg sub, so we only get 1 or 2 trains a week, and I have never seen or heard more then that in town. The WSOR loves to park MOW equipment up here though, so I never see them moving but I see a lot of sitting MOW equipment.

To stokerk, I envy you bigtime!![:(!][:(!][V][V] you gat on average 2 trains a day compared to my 2 trains a week! I got to move closer to Madison when i get older, although hopefully I won’t have to worry about seeing them, I’ll be driving them if I can help it.

Noah[:P][:(!][V]

i drive a truck for a living, so as long as i am not on the east coast, i see tons of trains every day.

I hear them all the time, but I only see them 2-3 times a week. The CP/CSX main is only 3 miles away.

Trollies don’t count because there isd only 1 car, it’s like calling a speeder or one of those mow trucks and tractors with rail wheels a train.

also, they are exteding the LRT system further south so i see alot of track builing equipment.

I hear a train on average once a day, but usually its very late at night or early in the morning before the sun comes up.

Not where I live–rush-hour light rail trains have as many as four articulated cars.

Admittedly, trolley headway would skew the numbers a bit–Market Street trolleys run on an eight-minute headway in San Francisco, after all. But even a single trolley counts as a “train” in terms of scheduling, and it is revenue operation rather than non-revenue–unlike a speeder or hi-rail truck, the trolley is making money by operating!

NJTransit runs about 80-100 trains thru my area a day. And they have enough variety of locos and cars to keep it interesting.

I ride my bike past a yard to my friends house so I see them about twice a week.
