With the new Amtrak Cities Sprinter debuting today and more going on line in the coming weeks, when will the AEM-7s start going into retirement? Anyone have a specific dates of when they will be going offline?
I don’t know when specific AEM 7’s are scheduled to be retired, but a few units should preserved for display. They served the Northeast Corridor faithfully hauling Metroliners until the Acela Expresses replaced them. They joined with the HHP-8’s in hauling the conventional Northeast Directs or Northeast Regionals; they also hauled the Cardinal, the Palmetto, and the Carolinian on their New York - Washington segment… They largely replaced the E-60’s in hauling New York - Florida trains and the Crescent between New York and Washington.
