Amtrak allowing pets on the Northeast Corridor

Great for all the people allergic to cats. Will Amtrak send out an alert when they are on the same train I’m on. I know we can move to another car after we start to suffer in hopes there isn’t a cat there also. Oh wait. We paid extra for business class and we have to move down to coach class. I’m sure we will get a refund on the spot and a guaranteed seat by the window. I just hope the dog in the car where my new seat is doesn’t have an accident.

@John, most pets that people take with them when they travel are used to it, cats normally are given a sedative to keep them calm…dogs usually do their business before travelling(and compare seven hours to being on a 22 hours flight, with no stops…visualize that one).

Gerald - I’m still allergic to cats no matter if they are awake or asleep. And every pet is a first timer once. Also I have a 14 year old West Highland Terrier who does well to last 4 hours. He rides with us back and forth between Florida to Michigan when we drive or is kenneled if we have to fly. Three hours with a cat on board. Been there done that. Not fun.

Too many “rules”, methinks, and 20# is an arbitrary figure. Price is a bit exorbitant. Caveat: on-board employees should be required to throw “barkers” off at track speed!

@William D. Hays: I second the motion about “barkers”. But, Be Prepared for trouble with PETA!

Long overdue and so far behind the UK and Europe where dogs ride on trains all the time and not in kennels, (guess those dogs are better behaved than American dogs).

Of course dogs are also allowed inside most English pubs (and most restaurants in large parts of Europe). Truth is most dogs that travel often with their owners are better behaved than most kids. Just odd how the folks in the UK and Europe can seem to make pets integral to society but we can’t seem to. Bewilders me every time I return from my summers abroad.
