Amtrak announces New Orleans service restoration
Amtrak is being run by wimps!
Wishful thinking: the service restoration in New Orleans would include to points like Gulfport, Mobile, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Lake City, Jacksonville, Orlando… Anybody listening anywhere?

William: Haven’t you heard? We have become law suit happy? With Amtrak having a decreasing amount of funding, they have to be extra careful. No, I do not work for Amtrak. But, I understand that a national rail system is very important to our country. Just as (heavens) Europe and Asia know that trains are important for them. If this makes me a socialist, big deal. I’ve been called worse.
This train should operate daily beyween Miami and Los Angeles with a billion or so of the $3 - 4 billion set aside for Unioin Station, DCA.
The Amtrak service still has NOT been fully restored at new Orleans. How much longer are they going to ignore the demand for restoration of the New Orleans-Jacksonville route? This was and is supposed to be a federally-funded route. It was that way when the susnet Limited first hadthe service extended to Miami back in 1993.
Wonderful news! N.O. is my old home town. I went to boot camp on the Panama Limited (how that happened I do not know, but I think my Mom and Dad paid). I remember the Union Station, and how it came to town twenty years too late. Even so, I would take the L&N out of their station at the foot of Canal Street, and go out along the West End Canal to the Lakefront to their stations east of N.O. Good to read that some progress is being made in the “city that care forgot.”
