Amtrak begins qualifying runs for Norfolk Service
This area has an ever growing population that needed pasenger service for a long time. I visited this area in the
60s and 70s and saw the congestion first hand by car.
I’m very glad that Amtrak is making this necessary action.
Thank you Amtrak leaders and supporters.
Interesting how easy it seems to add service in the HEC yet extrememly difficult to do anything with the long distance trains. I live in the west and ride as often as I can. Bus service is almost non-existant and flights are limited. Most of the time it is either train or drive. I would ride more if there was more service.
Amazingly, the conservative Republican Administration in Richmond didn’t fall out of the stupid tree and hit every branch on the way down like some politicians and broke the code that public subsidized long distance trains can break even or pay for themselves and provide “Green” energy efficient transportation and get cars off the roads. The Commonwealth is also subsidizing trains to Lynchburg…and unless Amtrak gets killed will link with NC Rail. Thank you Amtrak, supporters and Governor McDonnell.
I erred on that Army/Navy game. THe football game is the weekend BEFORE the start of regualr service. On the other hand, amtrak if you’re listening, why not use the test run equipment for a charter run up to the game and back that weekend from Norfolk?
The new train will be starting just in time for the annual Army/Navy football game in Philadelphia on December 8th, and with a good scheudule to get there om game day.

This is wonderful, This goes to show you that America wants passenger rail service. Too bad these nimrods like Mitt Romney, Jeff Flake (R) AZ, John Mica (R) FL won’t recogniste this trend.
