Greetings,
On Sunday, 1-25-09 I was finally able to take advantage of one of the Coast Starlight “Detour” trains. I rode #11 southbound from Sacramento to Los Angeles. This was a “railfan special”; there weren’t that many non-railfans on the trip. Despite being close to 2 hours late into Sacramento, it made good time and got in to L A about 6:40pm. Along the way, there were crew change stops at Fresno and Bakersfield.
I didn’t realize the ex-SP main through the Central Valley was so fast and smooth. Pretty good for a normally freight-only route!
