Amtrak diesels

What years did Amtrak use F7s or FP7s on their trains?

Not sure if Amtrak ever had FP7 engines. They did purchase used F’s from Burlington Northern, and lease used F’s from Santa Fe. These unit ran from 1971 to the mid 70’s(were replaced with SDP40F’s). Typical trains that used these units were the Super Chief/Southwest Ltd and the Empire Builder/North Coast Hiawatha. The Santa Fe units kept their ‘War Bonnet’ paint scheme. The Burlington Northern units were a collection of ex-GN & NP units. I know some of the F’s did get the original Amtrak ‘Pointless Arrow’ paint scheme before they were retired.

They did, 8 of them according to the all-time roster on rrpictures. But it gives no information on when Amtrak used them.

They also have some inaccurate information, listing a Metra North GE 65-tonner as an Amtrak loco and listing the 80-tonner at the Beech Grove shops as a 25-tonner.

Randy has it right… I remember Amtrak leased some SP FP7’s, and it appears that they did buy at least 8 of them - and paint them as well!
