The west bound Empire Builder apparently drailed around four to five oclock after picking a switch at the interlocking at milepost 88.1 this afternoon. Track speed for that stretch is normaly 35 mph but from the looks of the derailment in news video which was at an interlocking crossover on an s curve it was not going full speed. I don’t believe any injuries have been reported either.
What town was this derailment in?
Milwaukee. According to WTMJ TV, the derailment occured close to Miller Park, which is west of downtown and the Milwaukee Amtrak station. TV shows cars on the ground, all upright, and as of this post, no report of injuries. Definately has the look of a very low speed derailment.

Good that no-one was injured…but I bet a few folk were shaken by the experience…
I still haven’t heard much currently about the ongoing investigations into the Tilt Train derailment here in Queensland. Tilt Train services are still running at reduced speeds - that is, a maximum of 100kph (60mph) instead of the usual maximum of 170kph (100mph). If I hear anything I’ll pass it on here. Maybe Peter (M636C) has something up-to date…

Greetings,
I was able to get out and get some shots of Amtrak #7 derailed. It appeared that the Diner decided to split the switch which caused the rail underneath the rear truck of the diner to roll over and derail the front truck of the coach. In talking with some TV cameraman there apparently the passengers felt little or nothing when it happened. When I got there about 7pm they had moved all the paasengers into the rear 4 cars and were feeding them dinner. Eventually the CP brought a switch engine from the yard coupled on and pulled the last 5 cars of the train back to the Milwaukee depot. I left the area about 9pm. Pretty much there were just waiting for Hulcher to arrive.
Here are some photos
The Diner couldn’t decide which track to take.
Close-up of the rolled over rail and derail trucks
Looking south over derailed #7 with Miller Park in the background.
Uncoupling the rear 5 cars to return to the depot with the passengers.
Just before leaving heres what left for Hulcher to clean up.

Hey Keith,
