Amtrak employee struck, killed by passenger train

Always sad to hear.Thoughts and prayers for employee’s family and coworkers.

sad r I p

Very sad when someone doing their job is killed my thoughts go out to the family. RIP. Charles Coleman England.

Hate it when any railroader loses their life. Railroads are very unforgiving.

In broad daylight. I don’t understand how a railroad employee could be struck by a train in an industry where worker safety is considered Job 1.

I feel sorry for not only for the employee and family who was killed. But, the engineer and his family as well. The engineer will most likely has to live with this for the rest of his/her life. This is even more sad because it is so close to the holidays. RIP

It seems like that the train crew should have known about this ahead of time. Were there any visual warning devices put up for the engineer to slow the train?I’m sure the engineer has some regrets.

This is the extreme of a terrible accident and I offer sincere condolences to Amtrak and to all who knew this young lady. She hired as a teenager with IBM at Fishkill, and has been a railroad employee for over 8 years. She was a fully qualified Signal Maintainer who took one track out of service to work on it on the high speed double track Hudson Line. The status of the investigation is unknown, so it is only speculation that she confused the track numbers and worked on the one left in service. If this was not main high speed track, a lone worker is required to install derails over the head of the rails at certain distance both directions from their work site, such as within a yard.
