Amtrak food service debate continues
Who is going to investigate Mica et al’s waste of tax money in all this grandstanding? And what important issues are they not dealing with since they spend their time doing this? Time to send Mica and gang packing.
In referring to “His grandstanding” is about Jean Schmidt, she is a Congresswoman.

I agree with Jean Schmidt… Install vending machines…Amtrak is top heavy with dead heads anyway.
Railroading by socialists. Never has worked. Never will work. Everything the socialist touches, turns to garbage. Amtrak was a socialist dream come true from the start. Why should anything other than a disaster be expected?

The food on Amtrak used to be good until the Congress got involved and made sure it approached unpalatable. (This was done by stopping chefs from cookin meals on stoves. STUPID.) Rep Micah needs to concentrait on issues that matter like making airlines, truckers and barge operators pay for the govermental services they receive. If the railroads of the 1940s could serve a good meal Amtrak could also, if people like Rep Micah would stay out of the food service business.
The railroads of the 1940s and 1950s served good food, cooked on the diner. They needed no help from Representative Micah to do this. With the help of Representative Micah and overcontrolling bureaucrats like him Amtrak diner food has gone down hill because Micah, and his ilk, want to drive passengers away from the trains. That will make Amtrak’s unprofitability a self-fulfilling prphecy.
Let’s cut off all money to the airlines FIRST. Then, the government blow hards can compalin about Amtak.
Leave it to Boardman, it’s his job. Not Congress. Damn politicians. I hope you enjoy the teaparty this fall.

Amtrak’s biggest problem is Congress. Come to think of it, the nation’s biggest problem is Congress. Too bad we can’t outsource them.
No wonder our government is in disarray. That Congress would actually be holding hearing on this… This is a matter that management gets paid to deal with, not Congress.
Note to Jeffery Guse…the PRIVATE railroads also never made money on food service, nor the trains themselves in most cases. If you charged enough to cover all the costs, nobody would buy the food or drinks. Without food service though, nobody would ride the trains. The highways that run near your home don’t ‘make money’ either…funny how Amtrak is always the whipping boy. Some lower patronized routes might benefit from vending machine cafes though.
