The really dumb part of all this is that it takes incredible amounts of fuel to get a 200 thousand pound airplane up to 30000 feet. If, on the other hand we ran that 200 thousand pounds across steel rails very little fuel is expended. How dumb are airlines anyway or worse yet, Congress & voters?
