Got a tip that Amtrak heritage P42 #66 would be on the point of AMT 3 (27) and since it was due into LA on Saturday morning I deiced to make an effort to see this one. I hopped on Metrolink 260 and made LAUPT at 08:20 and found #3 sitting at its normal spot. I walked over to it and found that they are doing some work around platform 12 and so there was all kinds of crap in the way of the Chief blocking the good shot so I started for my back up shot. Its a pretty quick walk from the station down Chavez Ave. to the bridge over the tracks/LA river. There appeared to only be one pair of hoggers working this morning and so backing the Chief out would have to wait for the Coast Starlight to back in and then for all the mid-morning traffic to clear. As luck would have it Amtrak’s new safety wrapped F59PHi was still on AMT 768 so we watched it pull in (from the north) and then pull out (to the south). After a bit of waiting Amtrak 66 and the Chief came along and we shot them deadheading to Amtrak’s 8th Ave. Coach yard. 2 down, 2 to go…
AMT 768 (29) pulling out of LA with AMTK 457 on the point-

A closer view of the 457, sharp looking wrap IMO-

Now its the Chief’s turn to head for the Coach yard-

Thanks for looking,
Ryan
