Amtrak launches new advertising campaigns

Great idea. Now all Amtrak needs to do is learn how to run trains during bad winter weather. They also need to order more equipment and look at new service routes while they’re at it.

Vasyl:

Not to honk the horn for joy but I believe that a fowl person has flown the coop. Not a peep or a squawk from him in a week or so.

Excellent idea now can we order more coaches to accommodate the increase in ridership

They definitely need more equipment. However, if advertising, increases demand, they can increase revenues by raising fares. Then maybe they can use the extra revenue to buy or rebuild equipment. With the route cuts in the past, it seems they should have some older equipment sitting around that could be rebuilt.

They don’t have enough equipment! Why waste advertising money?

Sorry Amtrak, but the slogan: “Show the road who is boss,” is already taken by Schneider Trucking, with Guse’s face on it.

How do you sell more seats on already overbooked trains during peak season? Add more coaches! That would be great if there were more. Congress doesn’t seem to get it. Amtrak could be profitable or close to it if more revenue was generated. Can’t do that if you don’t have the capacity.

Total waste of money. No one needs to take Amtrak to silliness, like concerts, art galleries, basketball games, shopping malls, theatre performances, and other ridiculous events/venues. Stay at home, save money, and let the people that need to travel have a seat, especially if it snows!

What happened to the Goose?

Total agreement with all comments questioning the wisdom of soliciting more riders when there is such a shortage of equipment and often sold out trains.

Amtrak can advertise all they want, but it won’t make up for the rude on board employees I have encountered on several cross-country trips. It’s not advertising they need. It’s an attitude adjustment.

The advertising is for the Northeast Corridor regional trains, not long-distance services, That being said I want to say that Friday Terrie and I used the regionals and noticed that ALL trains were on time - I means Acela’s, regionals and Harrisburg services were arriving and departing on time. Also the crew members and station staff were polite and informative. Amtrak is doing a good job here!

I have trouble reconciling what we read in this article with what we were told a couple of weeks ago about all the nickle 'n dime cutbacks that Amtrak has made to many of its long distance trains. No more flowers on the dining car tables? C’mon, people! A few pieces of cheese here and there? It seems a bit hypocritical to tout how wonderful train travel can be in one breath and then in the next tell us that many of the things that make train travel so pleasant are being eliminated. What Amtrak should be doing is enhancing the amenities on board in order to make travel by train ever more attractive. I think it’s time for a leadership change at Amtrak!

I would like to see Amtrak bring back cafe cars on the Empire and Keystone Corridors. Otherwise, they are nothing but buses on steel wheels. And, since when did David Stockman work for Amtrak? These new cuts on Amtrak sounds like something that Stockman would come up with.

First thing to do, David, is to fire Joe Boardman. Him and his yuppie bean counters are merely handing Amtrak’s business to the airlines on a silver platter.

Oh; no, Fred. We don’t need to hear from that troll.
