Amtrak, MBTA resume Northeast Corridor service following vehicle strike

I’ve not heard the term “vehicle strike” before; used to hearing “accident” or “collision.”

Did they drive onto the right of way?

I’m sure SOMEBODY will say the train’s at fault and sue to impose speed restrictions.

Let’s wait for the toxicology reports, but I’m guessing that alcohol/drugs were involved.

Kinda like a ‘Bird Strike’ on an Airbus. Not good for birds, especially loons.

Their are NO Grade Crossings between Boston and Providence! Just a state of the art, double tracked electric railroad. The only access is Amtrak dirt service roads? Running north at midnight, at 120mph, it was reported the SUV was draged under the locomotive for more than the mile it took to stop.

Amen, Frederick!

I would agree with Mr. Schadick. However the media usually fails to provide more info after the initial attention grabbing story.

Lots of intemperate opinions based on very little information. Wait awhile and see what develops.

No road crossing or no signal gate arms?

Ian, news reports are saying that the SUV was driving north on the tracks when it was hit.

Watch the ambulance chasers go after the railroads even though the operator of the SUV was clearly at fault.

The news reporters will say the track were not safe because the tracks didn’t have lights and a gate and the lawyers will say they should have fences to keep the poor, ignorant drivers off of
known high speed tracks in the middle of no ware !

Mr. Urquhart is correct. That stretch of track has no grade crossings and is a state of the art high speed electrified section with mostly straightaways which is rare on the Boston - NYC run. Moreover, the SUV [Landrover] was not crossing the tracks, it was driving on the tracks in the same direction as the train and was overtaken from behind.
