Not CAT or signal but B&P Tunnel problem
MARC Service Alert alert@mtamarylandalerts.com
Major delays on Keystone route due to tree doing damage to CAT and transmission lines Thursday afternoon. Another case of tree removal stopped by nimbys ?
While NIMBY’s may be part of the problem - remember that saplings that weren’t even a thought, growing on private property in the 1930’s when electrification was installed have now become full grown trees in the ensuing 85 years - trees that have had their purchase on the land weakend with the near record rain faill that has happend in the mid-Atlantic states this year. Full grown trees near the edge of the property line can easily fall into transmission and catenary lines.
Another CAT problem just south of PHL evidently all 4 tracks. The ol PRR CAT system takes out all 4 tracks too easily. Happened Thursday about 2000. Worse still evidently wires down started a fire that required fire department to put out fire shutting down fall tracks for a while.
Power failure around New Carrollton. At 0300 trains still not moving 177, 175, 187 Delays over 3 hours
Evidently power restored about 0400. However due to conflicting reports unable to confidently assign this to CAT or another type of power failure .
signal problems again.\
