It is a shame that Amtrak does not believe that better on time is possible. Just read the following link.

SBB seems to be a national priority with Switzerland. Amtrak doesn’t seem to be a priority with the US. Amtrak can’t decide national priorities on its own.
What is Amtrak’s On Time record on the the railroad they do control - the NEC?
Between bad weather, mechanical failures, and being delayed by freight on time service has always been a struggle for Amtrak. While Amtrak is supposed to be given preferential treatment over freight railroads it’s pretty much impossible to enforce the rule. I have no solution but I admire the problem.
Whereas passenger trains had priority in the good old days of passenger rail travel, the opposite is true for poor Amtrak.

In the ‘good old days’ passenger trains were the RAILROAD’s own product, not a service for fee of another party.
The bigger question, to me, just how good is Amtrak’s On Time performance on territory where they are their own product?
That’s a great question.
