Just a thought, but is there any way to see if Amtrak could send more trains through the loop? There was talk years ago about sending trains over Tehachapi. With the detour of the Coast Starlight, it got me wondering. Could Amtrak send maybe one train a day over Tehachapi? Lets see what you guys think.
Sure it’s possable, but adding an Amtrak to the mix of an already over congested route is probably something UP and BNSF really don’t want. Then again if California really wanted an Amtrak San Joaquin extention into LA they could come up with some $$$ to add capacity. And in that area adding capacity will not be cheap.
True but California wants to build a bullet train over the mountains. You’ld think it would be cheaper to add capacity than build a whole new route.
I agree, and I think the Mag-lev thing is a pipe dream. Why not add capacity on existing lines. 110mph on rail is a lot more realistic than a mag-lev that would cost way more.
