Inspired by the recent Trains newswire story, I was looking at some Youtube videos of Amtrak Empire Service trains running into Grand Central.
This video shows one train with P42 #95 on the south end and P32AC-DM #710 on the north end. I noticed on the inbound trip 710 had a pair of small doors opened on either side of the nose. You can see a screenshot here:

On the later outbound trip with 710 leading they were closed. The older 95 doesn’t have them. Any idea what these are for?
