Amtrak P42 #145 now in phase III

Amtrak #145, P42DC, has been sighted wearing phase III. Supposedly #145 was been repainted to commemorate Amtrak’s 40th anniversary this year.

And according to someone over at trainorders, Amtrak’s bringing back a F40 into service too as a heritage/anniversary loco.

I liked that paint better anyway.

They need something new and brighter than the current scheme. Maybe something like the USAF Thunderbirds use.

I rather liked the red, white an blue stripes, too, but why can’t they stick to any one scheme; look at that picture: two locomotives and one car–nothing matches.

I liked the Phase III paint the best, but I was hoping they’d to a locomotive in the original “bloody nose/pointless arrow” scheme.

Just read the newswire… AMTK 156 will get the Phase I scheme!

Looks fantastic, doesn’t it?

I’d say this version of the Ph. 3 paint looks way better than the Ph3 that was actually on the P40s and P42s years ago, and a heck of a lot better than the “shamu” blue and silver. Looking down from up here in Canada, I’ve never been fond of Amtrak’s paint schemes, but I do like the look of this locomotive.
