Traditionally, the Keystone Service from HAR to PHL was always unreserved. Makes sense that during the holidays reservations are required.
Wouldn’t it be nice if there were enough capacity and frequency on regional type service the a customer could just head to the station with a smartphone ticket fare and not have to worry about a strict reservation. Oh well reality and fact that Amtrak should be profitable per the political hacks but highways get billions and billions of subsidy!
The should be interesting since the Pit-NYC train is already sold out on non-holiday weekends in July 2014. Should be a nice disaster when people show up and find no seats available.
A diesel, even a nice clean diesel, pulling a passenger train under PRR wires? Sacrilege! If NJT can field dual mode equipment for their commuter runs, why shouldn’t Antrak do the same on a route that is already wired?
As a former frequent user of this service, the ONLY problem I see is the POTENTIAL for SERIOUS OVERCROWDING, as these trains are often very nearly full. HAR-PHL has sure come a long way from the days when a single electric MU car ( no food, no bathroom) was sufficient, with seats to spare.
Well said, Mr. Trudo.
