The Purdue Railroad Club caught the final release of Amtrak’s Anniversary locomotives, #184 Phase IV. The icing on the cake was #66 Phase II also along for the ride on Train 851, the Hoosier State, seen passing through Lafayette to Chicago.
That Phase IV unit sure is a sharp looking one, and the best thing is it is basically nearly in the original Phase IV for the P42s rather than having the black area around the cab.
They’re out east now. All four of them are running on the east coast as of now. I’d be nice to see one running a train WEST out of Chicago for a change. I thought the original plan was to run them across the system. So far they sure have not been doing a very good job of that, and the only time one was west of Chicago, which was 156 going west on 3 and east on 4, 156 was trailing behind two standard P42s.
Word on the street is they’re being gathered in Washington or something for the first week of May (even though we know Chicago is the real crossroads [;)] ).
