Amtrak phases "overlap"

Hi,

I model the period 1978-82, so one would expect to see equipment in Phase II and Phase III (since Phase III was introduced in 1979). However, would there have been any equipment in Phase I left? Has anyone any photos of an Amtrak train containing equipment in all 3 of these phases?
