Amtrak portion of Penn Station sealed off after Haz-Mat terrorist incident!

The story’s not even on the CNN website yet, but I’m sitting here watching it on TV. No details yet but it’s related, they are saying, to the increase in security yesterday. The station is still running and trains are still moving, but a portion of the station is shut down as Haz-Mat responders are sweeping through. Details to come.

Here’s a CNN story on what has happened so far.

Just announced on CNN that they are investigating a “liquid of some kind” but the station has not been evacuated, just a portion of it shut down.

I am told there is no Amtrak access for the time being.

They’re saying it was a green, soapy liquid in a can. Initial tests showed it was a dye in Sodium Hydroxide and they’re calling it a hoax for the time being.

Gee, sodium hydroxide is lye. This is right out of the storyline of Wednesday night’s CSI NY episode on CBS. Hoax, copycat, whatever. At least they didn’t blame it on terrorists on the show.

Get it cleaned up and get back to normal. We spend way too much time and money worrying about this stuff.

A couple of months ago they shut down the international and charter terminal at the Twin Cities airport, when a bomb sniffing dog alerted on a routine patrol. The terminal was shut down for hours, for what was later determined to be residue from fireworks. Brilliant!!!
