Hello gang. Can someone out there possibly tell me what the phase III Superliner car is that I’ve been seeing in vintage video that’s just behind the baggage car that has the stripes on it that do a sudden up turn at the end of the car to join the stripes of the next car behind it ?. I’m thinking it’s an older version coach/baggage but I’m not sure. There’s no N scale model available of it I don’t think but if there was I’d like to have it… Thanks in advance for any info.
Not a Superliner. It’s a former Santa Fe Hi-Level. Converted to Coach/Dorm by Amtrak.
Here’s an Intermountain Hi-Level Coach/Dorm in HO scale with a Walthers heritage baggage and a Superliner Coach:
Kato makes Hi-Levels in N scale. However I do not believe they make an Amtrak Coach/Dorm with the transition phase III stripes.
It looks like they only make the straight stripe version. And it’s just a coach because it doesn’t have the dorm window inserts…even though it is labeld Coach/Dorm.
That’s the one!.. Thanks so much for solving that for me. Yes. I may order the decals and try to model it. It’s shown in just about every vintage phase III video I’ve seen, one of which in particular is the Empire Builder that was filmed back in the summer of 1991.
