Hello everyone,

I had a couple of questions about Amtrak.

Are there two conductors aboard or is the crew member up front considered a fireman or assistant engineer?

On trains that run Superliner equipment, if a private car or heritage class car is added to the end can you get from the high-level cars onto the lower ones? And is the Amtrak crew allowed to enter a private car?

I had a couple of questions about Amtrak.

Are there two conductors aboard or is the crew member up front considered a fireman or assistant engineer? I believe most trains have a conductor and an assistant conductor. There is typically only one crew member (the engineer) in the locomotive cab on most Amtrak trains.

On trains that run Superliner equipment, if a private car or heritage class car is added to the end can you get from the high-level cars onto the lower ones? And is the Amtrak crew allowed to enter a private car? I don’t think there is typically access to a private car from the Superliner cars and access can only be had at station stops. The Amtrak conductor is basically the “captain of the ship” and can go anywhere on his “ship”, even in the private car if need be.
