WHY doesnt AMTRAC order dome cars , i think these type of cars would in crease rider ship.

The old style dome cars were hard to keep cool in the summer months. What AMTRAC really needs are larger windows on their single level cars that are in Europe. With triple glaze windows using argon gas the temp inside the cars could be maintained without a strain on the 480 volt HVAC system.
Why doesn’t Amtrak order dome cars – easy, the public wants them, so Amtrak doesn’t. Amtrak doesn’t exist to please the public, it exists to please the politicians that hold it’s purse strings.
We’ll see about this FEC thing. Personally I think it is better if FEC owns and operates it’s own trains - let Amtrak connect in Orlando, and later in Jacksonville, if and when--------
I love to eat some Saturdays or Sundays from the small restaurant in old SAL Station. He has a few small tables and chairs along the wall and next to tracks. Silver Star seems to be well patronized, especially to Tampa. If FEC takes over, will Tampa be served by Silver Meteor from WPB? The old crossover at 25th. St. is waitimg for Jacksonville bound. I rode FEC many times for JAX, MTGY, Bham.
This new additional route would do better if the direct route between New Orleans and Jacksonville was back open again.
ahhh! these baby steps are killing me! it’s great to see progress being made on reinstating passenger service on the FEC, but will I be dead of old age by the time the first train runs?
Amtrak needs to extend/rename the City of New orleans from its current namesake to Miami, via Jacksonville, in two phases. The current Jacksonville station could be used as a temporary end point for an extended train beyond New Orleans until more equipment is available. By that time, the FEC line will be ready and the train could be extended to Miami.

First, why can’t two different people spell Amtrak correctly when it’s right there in the article? Second, Amtrak can’t put domes on the Silver trains because they don’t fit in the New York tunnels.
After reading the above article, I can now see why some readers might be skeptical about Amtrak’s ability to iron out the details of its proposed Jacksonville to Miami route using FEC-owned tracks. By failing to set deadlines to revise proposed ridership numbers and negotiating with FEC for the use of their tracks between Florida’s two largest cities may very well put the railroad at a disadvantage if and when it decides to go forward.
I don’t see why they don’t consider a train from New Orleans to Miami instead of Jax to Miami. It’s only 6 hours to Miami via FEC, and it’s hard for me to believe the traffic will be there to make it cost effective. A train from New Orleans could handle traffic from Chicago and the West coast without the need to transfer customers in Washington DC. The consist could easily handle Superliners and Domes, which would make it a more enjoyable trip for seniors and baby boomers on vacation.
To David Streeter: Who said anything about going to New York on the Silver from Miami via FEC? If you are responding to my statement, I’m talking about bringing back the Gulf Wind from New Orleans(with superliners and domes) that would serve(and make alot of governors happy)Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. Instead of stopping in Jax and returning to New Orleans, it would continue on FEC tracks to Miami. Another option would be several trains from Chicago(City of New Orleans) to Miami.
