Amtrak Service from New Orleans to Mobile

I have been gone for a while and haven’t read all the back articles, so if this has been posted – sorry.

It looks like Mobile is finally giving the OK for the resumption of service between NO and Mobile. I’ve been wrong – I never thought it would happen.

This article is behind a paywall, but here is a portion:

Passenger rail service could return to the Gulf Coast between New Orleans and Mobile early next year, thanks to a new agreement between the city of Mobile and Amtrak.

Mobile city leaders said last week they have finalized language for a funding agreement and ground lease that will pave the way for construction of a new train stop — the final hurdle needed before the service can begin. A majority of the Mobile City Council, which had opposed the deal earlier this spring because of concerns over its cost, is expected to approve the agreement next week."

Mobile during Katrina - 2005

Looks like it’s about the same depth as the water at my old house in New Orleans. Thanks for the photo. Since the old forum quit months ago, I haven’t kept up with much news on Amtrak plans.

You had to see the area through Bay St. Louis after Katrina. The entire CSX line that had been the route of the extended Sunset was obliterated for miles, as was everything for a considerable distance further inland.
