or in otherwords its now a bus.
This is a great way to reduce the number of riders, and thus eliminate that pesky subsidy altogether!
Urgh. The shortsightedness of the anti-Amtrak nuts never ceases to astound me.
Thank you Scott Walker!
Not 50/50?, wow Wisconsin didn’t read the fine print huh?
That figures! If Walker and his band of idiots had their way, the train would be discontinued and his road builder buddies would be adding a few more lanes to I 94. Neighboring states go forward with passenger and commuter rail service while Wisconsin goes backwards.
I guess the riders will have to use Brown Bag Service.
Governor Scott Walker is bound and determined to scuttle ALL Amtrak service in his little republic. I guess it’s a boon for all his highway buddies. Smooth move, Cheeseheads!
I can’t believe that the food service isn’t at least self sufficient with all the riders on this train if not a extra revenue producer. I would like to see the actual numbers on this one. TRAINS can you help us out here???
Why not put the food service out for bids and see if someone could provide the service, make a little profit, and contribute positive revenue to Amtrak?
Joe Hearns has a good idea - why not contract it out?
Short sighted politicians ! Wouldn’t be surprised if ridership goes down.
C’mon folks, it’s a 90 min. train ride we’re talking about. Is it an unbearable inconvenience to do without Amtrak snacks etc. till arrival at Chi. or Milw. where food options abound? Will a traveler opt to drive, fly or take a bus vs. going 85 mi. on a train with no snacks? I’d rather go snackless than trackless.
What are they ever going to do with all them chicken salad sandwiches ???
What are they ever going to do with all them chicken salad sandwiches ???
I hate to take this position. The run between Chicago and Milwaukee is about 90 miles. I can understand where the drop food service thinking comes from on a run that short. I do not agree that it should be dropped, with how it was described a a cart up and down the isle on select weekday runs, It can’t cost that much to operate. I as well would want to see the actual numbers on this service.
Jim Norton: I said the same thing about Amtrak when it ended food service on the Empire Corridor from NYC to Albany seeing that it carried politicans from what is known as the Down State region. They too have become buses.
Why not outsource?
Illinois is no peach either. Review the number of political leaders you have in prison, you are providing them three hots and a cot and not collecting for a ticket. Wisconsin needed to get it’s debt corrected and the current governor has succeeded. Although I would like to see the figures. Are they going to provide the cart service or are snacks dead also?
Sorry to hear this. The service is handy and the employee that handles the snack cart is always friendly and entertaining. Another way our (Wisconsin’s) current administation makes worse eveything they touch…at least this will be one of the more correctable mistakes.
