What? A missle defence system? What for? So they can blast cars & trucks that get in there way off of the tracks? Cool, No longer will we have grade crossing collisions just grade crossing explosions. Will they be using laser guided or heat seeking missles?
Just when I thought things were getting dull. I hope they install cameras too so we can have a front row view.[xx(][}:)][8D]
i agree with the president of amtrak mr.gunn ,something has to be put in place to defend peoples lives against these terrorists, and the trgidy caused by them, but missles?that sounds too wierd.granted they put them or at least thinking of putting them on airliners ,which can be apoosible deterent ,as airliners are attacked by shoulder launched heat seekers.perhaps a different approach for the railroads, heaven forbid that another terrorist attack begins on my felloe nieghbours to the us.
If they use laser-guided missiles, they can also take care of freight trains in their way (which, after sitting on the tracks for hours, presumably are no longer generating any heat).
Are there any torpedo-tube Geeps left around that Amtrak can purchase for use as booster units?
Now they have yet another reason to restore the “Minuteman” name to the Maine service!

That’s a one sentence quote that appears to be taken way out of context. The only reason you’re relating it to missle defence is because that’s what the poster claimed in his title. I’d like to see the entire article, and just because he refernces airlines doesn’t mean he was talking about missle defence for trains. He merely wants a piece of the anti-terrorism pie that the airlines have been enjoying lately.
I am prostrate on the floor laughing after reading this thread.
de fence is de chain link, Oui? Non?[:o)]
Using them for freight trains sounds a little sketchy. Especialy in urban areas where innocent people might get hit by raining freight cars. For the parked freight trains they better get some “battering ram” cars.[(-D]
Now we know the real reason the Acelas have been out of service.
So the shackles in the white ex-Lamoille Valley FEMA boxcars are actually for holding Stinger missiles…
I certainly hope Paul/Ryamond/trainfinder/peterson doesn’t hold a job that requires urinalysis…
I was beginning to wonder if they have jobs testing drugs.[swg]
Oh the humanity . . .
Amtrak now will become AmKa-blam…
Ritalin…it’s not just for breakfast anymore…
[(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D] And certainly not the breakfast of champions [(-D][(-D][(-D] That’s too funny Dan
I don’t know why I keep putting off reading the drivel in these particular postings. It really is great comedy!
Moo…

This is interesting here. I can’t say I see a real point to it, but, this is the government we are talking about.
Might also be useful against crossing gate crashers

The question I have is who gets to pull the trigger, the conductor, engineer or (more fitting) the fireman???[(-D]
