Amtrak to operate normal East Coast service for Thanksgiving travel

This is good news for both Amtrak and railroad passengers. The Northeast Corridor Trains we have depended on for over a century to get us home for the hollidays will still be running. We owe a special thank you to all the railroad employees and others who have worked so hard to make tis happen.

That’s the spirit, Amtrak!

The train counts for the North River (Hudson) tunnels represent peak HOURLY - not daily - train movement capacity. Joe Boardman and his Enginerring and Transportation staff have been tireless and resourceful in managing a recovery that is nothing less than heroic.

Why can’t the VIA fleet get into Penn Station? Are they steam heated?

The Cars are probably HEP2 (rebuilt Budd coaches). The problem is the Park series car. The dome will not meet the clearances into Pennsylvania Station.

Domes will not clear the tunnels leading to Penn Station. The VIA cars are HEP and not steam heated.
