Amtrak to upgrade amenities on ‘Hoosier State’

Does this have anything to do with the State of Indiana contracting out this service?
Too little, too late.

Good job Amtrak… Better late then never.

Robert Wilson, Amtrak is not involved, our state chose the bid of a contractor to operate the Hoosier State.
By reading the story there is no date for these upgrades and besides the real issue is the condition of the track and track speeds. The signaling system is Track Warrants and ABS

Ira Schreiber, “too little to late” ??? What does that mean? The new contractor hasn’t even taken over
yet, there is no date for service upgrades, as I said before, the issue is the track condtions and track speed.
As I said before the signal system is Track Warrants and ABS and contributes to SLOW speeds.

I rode Lafayette to Chicago when it was still the Monon, and it took about the same time as Amtrak does now. At one time, Lafayette to Chicago on Amtrak was under 3 hours, before the route was switched to run where it does now. Then part of the line north of Brookston was downgraded to 60 MPH, then the rest of it joined the slow speed club. So now it’s closer to 4 hours for the trip, and that’s if there are no additional slow orders and no freights in the way. Sorry, wifi and snax are not what is needed here. Now I drive to Miller and take the SS to Chicago. Free parking, inexpensive ticket, less than 2 hours drive to Miller and a pleasant trip downtown. Too bad, it would be nice to have a train that could get to Chicago from Indy in less time than a Model T.
