Places that rail fans just gotta hit the shutter button, take photos and/or hoping to make art from pixels or Provia, include the shot illustrating this story.
Tehachapi Loop’s top end of Walong, Sullivan’s Curve on Cajon, Maurant’s Curve, a cut in the canyon side the Durango and Silverton traverses…
This one is easy. Check the south end of San Pablo Bay. Where the Martinez Sub, the SP…uhm…UP…;shoreline route from Martinez is closest to the Santa Fe…uhh…Burlington Northern-Santa Fe…uuhhh…BNSF main from Stockton; that’s where to plant your tripod…it was 40 yards from parking on a dead-end street in suburban-nice neighborhood.
You’d be at BNSF level and looking down at the UP on the river.
Enjoy!
I’ve been in stores that provide free Wi FI and you get blocked from streaming any movies or live content because it overloads the system. Get a train load of people all trying to watch Netflix and the switching from tower to tower and problems get magnified greatly. I remember before people complaining that the internet was slow on the Acela. Where I live we often go to the cloud which means at the tops of hills you will see cars pulled over doing all their calls and net updates because it’s the only place it works.
Any chance of getting Wi-Fi soon on the Auto-Train???
Why on earth does one need high-speed internet on the train ALL THE TIME? Why not read a book or a newspaper or heaven forbid, look out the window? You can get email on the iPhone and iPad as long as you have cell service and failing that, get one of those mobile hot-spot things. I just don’t understand why you can’t relax for a while and look out the window. Or talk to new people.
will amtrak have Wi-fi on the empire builder this summer??
taking that train in mid July 2913
Cannot fathom reading a book or newspaper on a long distance train. WiFi to send pictures on my 4G phone to the family, for my tablet to check email, stock market and get Train magazine digital issues ![]()
