I noticed on the noon news today an item concerning an Amtrak train (not identified specifically) that ran into a car driven by young driver who apparently thought that a gate at crossing was an obstacle to be run around.
It was apparently the Silver Meteor.

Sorry, this was a lift of a link from Trainorders.com; I don’t knw how well it will work for non-subscribers. Also, it isn’t the video I originally saw, which shows the train slicing through the car. It is a miracle that nobody was killed.
What was hysterical was some of the clueless pressworker commentary on the incident and tying it to Philadelphia.
No, not hysterical in the comedic sense. Hysterical in the sense of derangement. A pathetic excuse for journalism.
Tom
Hysterical in the sense of commitment to the padded institutions of lower learning and mental derangement.
Not only did the car get split in two—the driver got a $ 204.00 traffic citation for driving around the downed gates!!! I wonder what will happen to his insurance rates. I also wonder if his policy covers the damage.
Can you provide a couple of these for our amusement? (I like that term ‘pressworker’ - it sums up a great many things no other euphemism properly expresses!)
For those who want to see the original video of the car being sliced in half, it was taken by a security camera on a nightclub across the street. Google ‘Riverside’ for the neighborhood.
The news coverage I read contained this salutary message:
That, I think, ought to prevent a recurrence, if anything will…
Insurance companies protect you against your own stupidity. Now, if he has insurance (1 of 8 drivers don’t) it will pay for the car and any property damage up to the limit he purchased. States require purchase of bodily injury coverage and property damage coverage. 1 of 8 drivers don’t obey these laws.
