How I miss those streamliner cars and SDP40fs!

Even during the “Rainbow” era Amtrak trains could look pretty impressive, especially since some were more than 15 cars long!

Also impressive in a different sort of way was the “Pennsylvanian”, which was basically a mail and express train. I would see it at Chicago Union Station prior to its 6:00 AM departure and the express boxcars and Roadrailers would extend all the way to Madison Street during December while the coaches would load between Adams and Jackson on Track 28/19.

Amtrak, please sale the Northeast Corridor so that someone can run it right.

Huh?!? the reason Amtrak has the NEC is because nobody else wants to run passenger trains. As for trying to get a multi-state agreement between several state Dept.s of Transport, forget it. If you think a state legislator is going to approve money for trains that go to anywhere else but his / her district, you’d better think again.
