Does anyone have some info about what is Amtrak’s last operating dome car? --Background info; in July and August, Amtrak brings in a set of Horizon Fleet equipment to supplement the Pacific Surfliners when the horse races are going on at Del Mar. Amtrak keeps the set of equipment contiguous because those single level cars won’t mate with the bi-level Surfliners. Any way, last Friday when I was driving through Camp Pendelton on I-5 and saw a Pacific Surfliner flash by with the Horizon Fleet equipment–and a (I believe) an ex-Great Northern full length dome car. I have seen this each summer for the last 4-5 years. Does any one know where Amtrak pulls those 8 or 9 Horizon Fleet cars from to feed Southern CA. and where does that dome car spend the rest of the year?
