They only use Diesel traction, because the original project was not totally terminated. The line in question was supposed to be electrified at 25 Kv Ac. I believe that substation equipment is still being ket somewhere.
About the GEs, they’re Ac44s, but their model designation is a little different (and the cab sides are slightly slanted), since the units are called C44Emi’s, and most of it are now built in a local GE factory called ‘Gevisa’. Except for the broad gauge, it’s a typical American ‘heavy duty rail’ operation, comprising the use of Locotrol. Ah, and besides these, there are still lots of older power (C30-7s, SD40-2s) being used).
