An interesting twist...

One of my first posts over a year ago asked what became of the two Western Maryland Scenic Railroad diesels featured in the Pentrex production in the early 1990’s. My specific interest was in the RS3 #199. I liked that locomotive for various reasons, especially the horn. Nobody was able to come up with the specific whereabouts of the 199, but I did not have to look far. I volunteer for the Naugatuck Railroad and Railroad Museum of New England in Thomaston, CT. We got hold of an RS3 #1508 from a railroad in Michigan. A museum member told me this engine was purchased new by the Boston & Maine and still had its original road number. Remebering the Pentrex production, I put the pieces together. There, right in front of me, within physical reach, was the RS3 that had worked on the WMSRR! I could not believe what a random twist of fate this was! I was sad to see it leave the WMSRR, but I’m grateful for where it is now. Unfortunately the unit is not operation. It was damaged by CSX when in transit to our museum. With our new diesel shop however, it should be up and running in no time…hopefully with the same horn!!!

Any chance of seeing it re-painted in the B&M maroon and gold?

That would e really cool [2c]

(And yes, I know paint isn’t exactly the highest priority on returning a locomotive to service, but . … . . )

There are indeed plans to return it to that exact scheme. All of our locomotives are set to be painted into their original schemes. When? Who knows…
