Both Kato and Intermountain should be applauded for enhancing the detail of N scale loco’s and including basic cab interior detail. I am somewhat puzzled that Atlas continues to lag behind. As far as I can see there is no startling cost difference. Come on Atlas you can do it???

I have several of the CB&Q F3s with Passenger pilots for the Cal Zephyr and they run great - typical Kato. (Note to Kato - Please bring out an F3 in CB&Q Grayback paint scheme. Also, the CB&Q later regeared the Cal Zephyr sets for freight and painted them in the Grayback scheme. How about bringing out a set of those?) They pull well and are DCC friendly. The paint is good and the lettering sharp. I only run mine with the Cal Zephyr so the Kato magnetic couplers are fine for that application. Overall and outstanding model.

Anyone having experience with putting the older Kato F3 shells on the new mechanism?

I really like the F3.

I added a MRC sound decoder. It sounds great and was pretty easy to install.
