A former Conrail…now CSX SD80MAC had some trouble at the Cumberland Shops turntable… see link for details http://ogaugerr.infopop.cc/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/46660482/m/8221093433
…Oh boy…That’s a bad one…My amazement is what must be the strength of the fuel tank…Not to rupture under a situation like that…and then if it would have…Fire…!!
Yeah…and take another look at that frame stripe…that frame is definitely bending under that strain…
wow
and I thought the shift before ours left us in a bad spot.thanks for the pics
stay safe
Joe
This is enough to enrage the top boss all the way down thru the smaller bosses until it hits the poor worker who allowed this to happen.
Look at that frame bending. I hope that fuel did not leak.
Strain is the actual deformation of the material, the bending is the strain. It is bending because of stress.
WOW!! I have done that on our layout but it didnt come out that bad!
Looks like it’s trying to walk on it’s hind axels.[:o)][:O][:P][;)]
That must be how they inspect the wheels… when they’re drunk!!! [:P][:P][:P][:P]
Hate to be the guy that did that one…
From what I read up top, nobody “allowed” this to happen but rather the units would not move due to brake problems and when it DID move…look out, they could not stop it…the units was in the shop initially for the brake probelm, so it was a REAL accident. These things happen but watch the fur fly at CSX Cumberland for a while.
The thing that amazes me is that there is only one person looking things over. In times past there would be at least a half dozen bosses on site. You could identify them as they all wore fedora hats and ties. That was the mandatory part, the suit coat was optional. Now you can’t tell the workers from the bosses. Or maybe even better, the bosses stay out of the picture so the workers can clean up the mess.[(-D][(-D][(-D]

thats the 5th known incident of this at Cumberland the past 6 months!
according to my www.myspace.com buddy,", the following units have been in the “Pit” this year
C44-9W 7812
SD40-2 8888 (Man, this unit LOVES trouble)
AC4400CW 172
AC6000CW 667
SD80MAC 806 (This incident)
The second unit is probably gonna be retired…3 strikes!
1st: Run’s away in Ohio with hazerdos Material
2nd: Sideswipes a train in Jersey
3rd: Falls into the Cumberland Turntable pit
what next 8888?
Oh, oh, it’s an ex-Conrail! They seem to be causing all sorts of trouble. I think NS is bearing the brunt of it, though. I’ve seen numerous photos of NS and ex-Conrail/now NS units blowing some fire out of their stacks, some even causing a blazing inferno.
Wow. that really sucks if they needed to get locos out of the repair shop. Funny how it was in the shop for the brakes.
It must have been going at a pretty good speed to make it that far. Otherwise it should have stopped right behind the truck.

Sounds like they need some derails if they keep puting them in the pit.
maybe thats why turntables should be removed all together???[:D]
There was even more fun to be had when steam engines ran into the turntable pit.
That’s a lot of weight to resting on the fuel tank, it looks like there is a bit of buldge in the tank. Good thing that it didn’t rupture.
I bet that engineer had an interresting ride back words… and few questions to answer.[:D]
