Analog Layout Construction

Hi everyone,I’m a model railroader, living in Ankara, Turkey.Starting from 2006, I’m trying to buid up an analog DC layout which in fact represents important stages and unreached wishes of my 41 years life:

I’ve also completed a turntable construction http://marsandizankara.page.tl/Home.htm and I’m proceeding forward with building the depot.

So, nice to meet you here and I hope to broaden my model railroading view in trains.com especially at the scenery building stage.

Hi, and welcome!

I’m pretty new myself (see my post count!) and it didn’t take long to find it’s a fascinating place with plenty of great tips and tricks.

Welcome aboard!

Will you be modelling a Turkish prototype railroad? I hope you will keep us informed with your progress. It’s not an area we see very many railroad pictures of.

[#welcome] to the forum from northern Maine. I’ve only been a member for a few months but have found this to be the best of the forums I have come across. You’ll find lots of folks willing to help with your questions, etc.

Welcome aboard.

In here you will find people of all skill levels from a board under the bed to minature worlds that are hard to tell from the real thing, and all are willing to share what they have learned over the years.

Welcome aboard,

What is the scale of your analog layout ? We are always glad to give and exchange ideas. If possible, send us a picture of your layout. In what room of your house is the layout located ? I was one of the lucky ones, who built the 24’ x 24’ garage loft, (with an inside stairway), dedicated strictly to my layout. But, I live in Michigan, and today it got too cold to work on the DCC wiring of the layout. Tomorrow, I will have an electrician coming to add circuits, so that I can install a few electrical heaters. Feel free to ask questions, or to give advice. Bob Hahn

Hi Kamil –

Welcome aboard from up here at the NW corner of Europe, too [:)]

You will find lots and lots of kind, smart and very helpful people around here!

So what are you modelling, and in what scale ?

Welcome. I’m from Minneapolis and model mountains and canyons. Hope to see more pictures

[#welcome] I think your the first member from Turkey that I’ve seen here. BEAUTIFUL job on the turntable!! That is a really nice step by step you did on it too. Gives me some good ideas for the one I’m building.

Welcome. I’m in the southern US in central Louisiana. I model in HO Scale on a DCC layout that measures roughly 8 x 10 feet. That would be about 2.44 x 3 meters in metric.

[#welcome] to the Forum, Kamil. Very nice job you’ve done on your turntable and some good (and inventive) workmanship displayed there.

Welcome Aboard!

Please keep us posted on your layout.

Welcome aboard. If you have the time, most of us would enjoy seeing photographs of Turkish railroads. Good luck.

Welcome aboard from Lilburn, GA, USA! Just based on what you have posted so far, you seem to be off to a good start and have a good plan for what you are doing. I am about your same age (42) and just started building my first permanent layout this summer, so I know the exact enjoyment that you are feeling right now! Jamie

welcome to the forum !

i saw the first photo of your turntable and thought to myself " i don’t recognize that turntable , i wonder which kit he used to build it ? "

and then i looked further down the page and said , out loud , " OH MY GOD! , he scratch built it ! "

fantastic work , keep the photos coming

Thank you, I didn’t have enough time to explore the activities here yet, but I can feel the friendly atmosphere here.

Electrical connections of the multi-block triangle is completed:

Five locomotives entering into the triangle (this is only for demonstration purpose, reality was not considered)

Same locomotives leaving the triangle:

A short freight train, changing direction on the triangle:

And, a longer movie:

Notes:
The surrounding light in the movies are a little dim, I’m sorry about this
Locomotives in some movies move fast in order to shorten the movie time
Bodies of some locomotives were removed to show that there is no decoder inside.

Hello and welcome. I lived in Ankara from 1964 - 1968. Lived in the Hotel Pinar for about 6 - 8 months before moving to some star shaped apartments out on the highway. The hotel Pinar at that time was around the corner from the office Bldg. that USAF headquarters was located in, and was right across the street from the (a) train station. I was 10 years old at the time and would sit in the window and watch steam freights and passenger trains all day. a special treat would be the streamliner that would come through maybe once in the morning and going back the other way at night…

I am very impressed with all of your work. Instead of you asking us questions, i think we should be the ones asking the questions…SUPER JOB… keep up the good work

I’m impressed with the turntable, actually the whole layout. If you don’t mind me asking, is that skill level part of your professional background? I’m new at the hobby also, and have tried several different ways of building things. Some work some don’t. Your work looks great. [:D]
