And I THOUGHT "X" Stood for Railroad Crossing

Over on the Trains.magazine forums Mookie gives many threads a “hook” to draw people into her thread and read her posts. I just stopped by F J and G’s thread entitled “X - rated bookstore” expecting to see a thread about railroad crossings crossbucks. Boy was I wrong. [:0] [B)] It wasn’t a “hook”, more like a right cross. [}:)] [;)]

If we want more train mags in the mainstream bookstores we as a railroad fan and modeler group need to tell the management and request they sell them. I don’t know about you but I really don’t plan on going to the “***” peddlers to buy any railroads mags.

Jim -

Just a thought, but wouldn’t starting this topic only draw more attention to something that you seemed disappointed about being there to begin with? It seems to me that the topic was already well on its way to archive oblivion (page 2 thus far), and now you risk giving it a whole new life.

My approach (which is probably being technically violated with this post) is to simply ignore those topics that I find distasteful. Posting something to them (even if to express your feelings) only moves it back up to the top of page 1 so more people can take notice.

I couldn’t agree with you more, Jim! The bookstores for normal people should be the places that have the best selection of train magazines as opposed to the kind of place Dave was telling us about. If regular bookstores don’t/won’t carry certain magazines we want, the hobby shops should, where most us us visit often, anyway. I would definetly much rather give my business to a bookstore or hobby shop than some X-rated bookstore. If we support a certain business, they are more likely to listen to us as customers.

I agree.

That is why I made the post. Not to draw attention to the other thread but to try to get people involved in getting the magazines we want into “better” places to buy them. I don’t get M R on a regular basic but I buy them whenever I stop by and can get one. Just about a week ago I was doing some housework and found a M R issue from 3 or 4 years ago. I try to keep all my train related mags but this one got hidden elsewhere.

The closest LHS to me closed years ago. It was something like Madejo Trains. He even advertised in Trains and Model Railroader. I bought several models from him and other items including books and magazines. He also specialized in MO PAC but now is closed. [:(]

I agree with Mitchell, we need to support our LHS so they won’t close and that way we have a “good” choice of where to buy our magazines and such.
