Annual Pennsy Modeling Survey

Every November, the Keystone Crossings site conducts a PRR HO Scale Modeler’s Needs Assessment Survey.

The survey asks respondents to indicate their top three desired models in each of several categories, including steam power, diesel power, electric power, freight rolling stock, passenger rolling stock, etc. Each category is pre-populated with several choices that “a committee” feels are among the needed.

Survey results are sent to several dozen manufacturers. Though our survey is unscientific, and doesn’t take into account quantities each modeler may desire, we have noted that each year many of our top desires are announced as products within 12-18 months. So perhaps this data provides a “pulse point” to the industry.

Hi Jerry

I’m glad Keystone Crossings is making the effort to present data to manufacturers. I’m from the era of modeling that I thought would never see the day that a Baldwin BP-50 would ever be produced at a reasonable price, in Plastic! With SOUND too!

I completed the survey and I only wish there were a way to make a “write in” candidate.

I thought there should have been an F-22 flatcar in there? How about Romeo or Juliet, one of 47 scenery baggage cars? No entry for those, either. I’m sure there are others…

Still, It is nice to know that modelers have an avenue to express their hopes and desires for possible new products. Thanks for your efforts. (Hope we see an E-44 motor sometime soon!)

Please ignore that oval thing in my avatar, I’m working incognito…

I am not a PRR modeler specifically…basically I like most things prior to Conrail and some Conrail. Most of the locomotives that interest me have already been produced…but unaffordably. I would like an M1 and a K4…but current models are out of my price range. Another locomotive I would like to see done in something other than brass is the E44…I would jump on those if they were priced as the Bachmann E33’s were.

Even if you are not a Pennsy modeler if your layout setting is prior to 1970 you still need some PRR rolling stock. They had literally thousands of each major class of freight cars. The scenery/ baggage cars could be seen nation wide also. I would love to see a B74 horse express car and some pre war RPOs. The PRR had some unique rolling stock that saw service nation wide through most of the 1900s.
