Anonymous Posting

Yes, I know this is not exactly on-topic. But I hate it when I get zinged by an anonymous poster, or when anyone else does for that matter too. I’ve seen several of these folks making posts in here, never any help, just pointing out other’s mistakes or stirring the pot. To me, an anonymous poster, is no better than the masked clowns we deal with over here on a daily basis, too cowardly to show their identities to the world.

Okay, I will now step off my 3 story [soapbox]

Let me have it with both barrels![:D]

Rick

Okay, both barrels.

The first is full of monkeys, the second, beer. [8D]

Some would rather start a rumour than begin a useful task. Others would rather incite a fight than display their lack of insight into a matter.

While I agree with your statement about the annonymous posters I’d have to expand it to many of the others who hide behind the annonymous nature of the Internet to perform the same actions.

Get home safe and soon Red.

Yes, i must wonder why you would want to have annomyinimity, but i have heard that if your email account has a virus then it can go on tho this website, or another forum for that matter and search for email addresses to infect, so you have a reason not to pubicly and out your email address, also spam, and the list goes on.

Then there’s the idea that if you’re anonymous you can respond to idiotic statements and feel like you’ve accomplished something without revealing your true identity.

Oh heck, who cares… If the term “idiotic statement” was in the dictionary, the above quote could be used as an example.

Thank you very much.

I’ve said this for years now – no matter what, you just never know exactly who is on the other end of the keyboard. Even if there is a full bio on someone’s profile, it can all be made up. It’s the nature of these forums. You just have to take it for what it is; a good place to share and obtain MRR information which often requires sifting through some garbage to get to the worthwhile stuff.

Oh, but I do get a good laugh from time to time.

The very best way to deter these people is to completely ignore them. Just for a moment, put yourself into their shoes. You initiate some foolishness to stir the pot as you put it, or make some rediculous remark with the intention of really getting someone mad, especially, if the target audience has already got bent out of shape in anger or frustration. They BITE…and hammar back at you…ahhhh, I got them, so you stir in more red pepper, and on and on it goes…the Troll has succeeded. You sit back and laugh and revel in your success, and on and on it goes until Bergie pulls the plug.
HOWEVER…if you don’t bite, and completely ignore this infantile fool, they have NOT succeeded, and it is THEY who get mad and upset and will be forced to move on. Is this easy to do? Hell no…it is natural for all type “A” personalities to fire back…your testosterone levels are high, you can’t let him get away with saying that #$%%$#$##!!!

Guys…##### IGNORE THE FOOLS…THAT WAY “YOU” WIN

How do you post anonymously? I’ve never seen an anonymous post.

I believe he’s referring to posters who have nothing in their bio, not even a ‘real’ first name…

Rick,
While I can understand how you feel I really haven’t seen much of this at all. Maybe I’m not reading the topics where people are zinging each other.
I never thought of myself as anonymous so I checked my profile and discovered that I never put anything in it. So I put my name and location in just now. Possably a lot of people just don’t bother to fill out the profile when they sign up just as I didn’t. Bruce

This strikes me as complaining about not being able to categorize someone based on personal information, and having to actually evaluate the merits of someone’s comments or opinions without being able to label them, whether positively or negatively.

Until they change their policy, Kalmbach has given us the right to be completely anonymous on these forums if we so choose. If someone disagrees with my opinion, or points out a mistake I’ve made, it makes no difference it that person is anonymous or not - what makes a difference is the validity of that person’s arguments.

And pointing out mistakes or stirring the pot or what-have-you isn’t necessarily bad anyway - If we can avoid the knee-jerk counter-attacks, these can lead to helpful discussions in their own right.

I choose not to reveal much. However, I do use my name, and I don’t post-and-run. I hope this is not a problem.

Matt

My thoughts exactly. There seem to be a few people out there in Kalmbach forum land who consider whether a person has filled out their profile completely to be more important than the content of their posts. Personally I won’t put my surname on (ID theft is a very serious danger) though I’ll put a little biographical information. It’s still easy to spot the trolls and corporate sock-puppets just on the basis of the content of their posts, so there’s no need to reveal more than you feel comfortable to my mind.

All, its more the posts that come up as no member name and under that where it normally has number of posts, location etc, it has error error.

I understand about not wanting to reveal everything for fear of spam, etc. But this appears that someone has found a way to post without any profile at all, even a member name. At least with everyone that has made a post to this thread so far, I can address you by the screen name you’ve chosen. I apologize if I was unclear with the anonymous definition.

Rick

Oh!

The “Error” comes up where a member has been deleted or has deleted his or her self. This deletes all info about you, including your username. One you “delete”, you’re no longer registered, and your username once again becomes available.

Hope this helps,
Matt

I’ll glance quickly at those when they come up. From what I’ve seen, those posts are either rants from someone who got so steamed they stormed out permanently, or are hit-and-run troll posts. Generally they’re not worth much other than as shake-your-head entertainment.

Those don’t appear often, so I don’t see them as a problem.

Yes, that explains alot. So it could have been the webmaster deleting them for making “non productive” comments. Thanks

Rick

At least you’ve got your E-mail out there. I don’t say anything thing here that I wouldn’t say to someones face.
Hey Matt- I’m going to be in your neck of the woods tommorow for a job interveiw. (keep your fingures crossed) Any good hobby shops near the Rt.24/440 interchange?
Maybe I can do some railfanning at that yard too.

Who is to say who is who on the internet anyway?
Are you really in Iraq for example, and how do we know that is true if you say so?

Just where exactly are you going to be?

I agree with Redgrey62 this forum is for asking questions and helping someone figure out the problem they may be having not slamming someone for not being 100% correct. And Redgrey62 becarefull over there i see the violence is rising again although it probably never stops, Thank you for protecting our country and please make it back home safe. My wife’s Nephew is a Marine and is on his way over as of last week he was assigned his first tour over there he is 22 not sure what company he is in he has been stationed in California. Again hope you can stay safe.
