I saw BNSF 2472 yesterday. It was still in the ATSF blue/yellow scheme, but with a large yellow BNSF on trhe blue hood .
They are competing with UP in bringing out new Heritage schemes. (Just kidding! Just kidding!) Before you know it, there will be a ceremonial unveiling of commerorative Warbonnet locomotive. Then there will be a green Burlington Northern locomotive without leasing marks on it. In the meantime, BNSF will come out with four more paints schemes and three new trademarks. Count on it.
BNSF 2472 was renumbered before BNSF came up with a standard renumber scheme. BNSF 2931 and 2911 were renumbered in the same way. As with heritage schemes, BNSF still has alot of Santa Fe units that only have a new number and BNSF under it. And there is alot of ex-BN units running around with out the BNSF mark. So these would be truely heritage untis.
I hope they hurry!
Actually, BNSF is considering letting anyone paint a locomotive any way they want for $10,000.
UP is considering the same program, with some limitations. You can paint their locomotive any way you want as long as it matches all the other ones.
