another csx derailment in balitmore

csx derailed in balitmore on 11/24/07 and no fire with this one.

hopnestly if they ever want to not look like such a screw-up road, really they should stop crashing all the time [banghead]

Well, I am sure that they could care less what you thi…aw never mind, its not worth the effort.[banghead]

Sounds like there is not enough money to upkeep and maintain the track. There has been WAY too many derailments this year.

The almighty dollar isnt the goal here.

I wonder how long it will take for a large railroad to be hit over the head with large damage, cleanup and wrecked billing before they start keeping the track and stuff in good shape. Preventative maintiance is cheaper than anything when done right.

If allowed to fall apart, they should get out of the railroad business and let some other company who is willing to spend a healthy budget for upkeep to run it.

As always, a gentle admonition to wait until a probable cause has been determined before jumping to conclusions.

Despite CSX’s track record (pun intended), there are other possibilities.

The cause of the derailment was NOT track related. I repeat NOT track related.

Shoot! I wasnt paying attention, was it track related? lol

The CSX earned itself a bad reputation for their ROW maintnance (or lack thereof). The notorious report of defects found in the FRA’s track inspection of a few years ago and the threat of fines and embargoes sent them a wake up call. While I am not a big fan of the CSX I think to their credit they got the message, increased their maintenance budget and their lines are in better shape today than before. Unfortunately the memory of the past conditions lingers on and every time a CSX derailment happens we’re all too quick to blame bad track as the cause. This is a bum rap that I don’t think the CSX any longer deserves and we’d all be well advised to wait until the cause of a derailment is determined and avoid speculation beforehand.

Mark

not to mention they (the management) are endangering the lives of their employees by not taking better care of their equipment or even caring more about them at all. and that’s just sick

And once again I ask you, how do you know that this derailment was caused by CSX equipment? It seems that you again have knowledge of this that the rest of use don’t have. BaltACD has stated that it was not track related, and judging by his or hers screen name, he would know what is happening on that part of the railroad. You are throwing around some VERY STRONG accusations, tell me where is your proof? I am guessing that it is just your opinion, even though you did not qualify it as such. You, of course are allowed to have that opinion, but it seems to me to be a very uneducated one.

You couldn’t be more wrong if you tried. Please confine you comments to something you may have some knowledge about.

What nobody noted in this discussion is that the cars that derailed contained toxic materials so the area around the derailment was cordoned off as a sensible precaution until it could be determined there were no leaks. The derailment occurred south of the Baltimore Ravens stadium so traffic in its vicinity was blocked, and that included the MTA’s Light Rail Line. Fortunately there were no toxic material leaks so the aarea around the derailment was opened after three hours. I got this information from a Washington Post article about the derailment. So far there have been no news reports about the cause of the derailment.

Oh come on BaltACD, who are you trying to fool. It is common knowledge that teenage railfans know way more than any of us who work in the industry. Besides, according to railfans it is always CSX’s fault. The Iraq War is CSX’s fault. Global Warming is CSX’s fault. Al Gore’s Nobel prize is CSX’s fault. The housing slump is CSX’s fault. The Great Depression was CSX’s fault. Hitler was CSX’s fault. Hillary running for president is CSX’s fault. GM and Ford’s financial problems are CSX’s fault. And most importantly, all the minor derailments that happen weekly on UP, BNSF, and NS are clearly CSX’s fault. Shame on you for picking on the poor kid.

that’s it.

i mourn the deaths of my favorite locomotives…everyone hates on me

i try to have a good laugh…everyone hates on me

i say i like the newer motive power…everyone hates on me

i try to defend the employees i didnt mean to insult…everyone hates on me

what you rather i just kill myself? cuz i will. i dont anything left worth living for. or will i still get hated on anyway?

and they wonder why i’m so suicidal…

I don’t hate you Lord Atmo. (LOL, see you can’t even get your suspicions that ‘EVERYONE hates you!’, correct[}:)] ) I do wish you’d develop some artistic talent though, to at least make your cartoon faced locomotives pleasing to the eye, instead of the crude works that they are. Maybe you could take some classes on lighting, and depth?

Atmo,

Calm down. Does ending your life solve the problem? This is supposed to be a hobby and hobbies are supposed to be fun.

No one is hating on you. They’re merely hating on the fact that your posts are…uninformed perhaps? I’ve gone down the path about your posts before and you know where I stand. Your opinions are your opinions and you are entitled to them. However, you have to acknowledge the fact that others also have their opinions.

The point here was that it’s unfair to call out CSX on track problems when the cause of the derailment is unknown.

If you’re serious about the suicide thing, please get off the forum right now and dial 9-1-1. If not, maybe it would be good to step back from the forum for a bit and do some railfanning, or pursue another hobby altogether. Like I said above, if it’s not fun, then it’s not a hobby.

Hi Lord Atmo,

You may remember me taking you to task a while ago for knocking the UP and its steam program but I certainly don’t hate you and hope you will continue to contribute to these Forums. I know you miss your beloved CNW just as I do some of my favorite lines that have been merged into the megas roads of today.

Young guys like you are the future of raifanning so don’t give up but rather accept some well meant advice and keep on contributing here. Cherish your memories of the past but accept the changes that have taken place and learn to enjoy the railroad scene as it is today. Instead of making positive statements on things that you are not knowledgeable about, phrase your comments as questions or opinions. Be sensitive to how your remarks will be received by others, particularly those who may be far more conversant on a specific subject than are you. The many forum members that read your remarks possess a combined wealth of knowledge that will be used to cut right through any BS you may post.

Keep these suggestions in mind and the replies you receive will be constructive not critical. Forget that crap about suicide - you have much to offer to our shared hobby and will have even more in the future as you learn from others, both long time railfans and present and former railroaders. Best wishes and remember though I’m old enough to be your grandfather I’ll always remain your friend and fellow rail fan

CSX keeps doing what they do best. “Lack of Safety” If Conrail was back on the line.

well if only the nazi southern would bring back conrail and in return conrail could takeover csx but that’s ait going to happen ever
