Another day, another book

Recently the local library had Santa Fe Through Passenger Service (In Color) displayed at the new additions section. I grabbed it and took it home.

Published by Morning Sun Books, Volume 1 by Greg Stout, covered the Super Chief, Chief, El Capitan, Amtrak, Kansas Cityian/Chicagoan, San Diegoan, Golden Gate, and stations at Chicago/Los Angeles. Upon returning it, I discovered Volume 2 was also available. V2 covers San Francisco Chief, Texas Chief, Kansas City Union Station, El Pasoan, Phoneix Connection trains, Grand Canyon connections, Joint Line to Denver, Tulsan/Oil Flyer, Fast Mail, Mixed trains, and The Grand Canyon.

Many discount these Morning Sun books as the “Book of the Month”. I believe they serve a great need by providing quality color photographs from the 40’s thru 70’s and have a surprizing amount of information in extended captians and introductions to chapters.

These two volumes give considerable information regarding the operations of Santa Fe’s fine passenger trains. Of special interest is the details of equipment used, particularly on trains such as San Francisco Chief which took the southern route and dropped and picked up cars at key junctions.

I do not pay $60 for these books, but do have a sizeable collection, based on an estate sale where I literally was given 20 unsold books at the end of the day. Oh what a day that was.

Now that the local library has a couple, that has opened the possibility of the Inter Library Loan to secure more for a 2 week period.

This is really a nice 2 volume set.

This reading, and multi-tasking[4:-)] around at auctions, libraries and book stores has gotta slow down a little! [:-^]

[sigh] I guess I read too slowly…[:‘(][:’(]
