Another ebay thread!

I have a question for all out there. Why is it that some sellers refuse to leave feedback until the buyer does? I have had this experience with several people and it irritates me greatly. I have the policy of paying for my item right away shouldn’t my feedback be rated on that? It makes me wonder if they are waiting to see if I leave positive or negative feedback so that they can do the same(by the way I think I have only left one neutral or negative in 200+ purchases and sales). When I have sold something I leave feedback as soon as payment is made, since the buyer has fufilled his end of the deal. I have purchased 4 items recently on ebay and all four paid for same day and yet have not recieved the feedback yet UGHHHH.

They wait until you do to see if you give negative feedback.
It is their one chance to blast back, and evil-bay won’t modify either one.

My feeeling is that once I’ve paid for an item, I’ve done all I can do and I deserve a positive feedback.

A lot of sellers don’t want to take the chance that you’ll leave a negative and then they can’t leave one on yours. If you leave a negative feedback (valid or not) you can be sure you will get a negative from the seller as well. The system won’t let them back in to leave a negative if they have already left you a feedback, so they wait.

If a seller does not leave feedback and waits for me as the buyer then I just don’t leave any.

Some people (buyer’s) are hard to get along with and I guess they want to defend themselves, but it is not right, but want you gonna do.

Delay of feedback can get annoying at times. I have left 110 feedbacks and have received only 93(100% by the way), which 95% are from buyers who refuse to leave feedback!(They’re also the ones that are quiet…)Too quiet, if you ask me.

Okay, off the soapbox.

As mostly a seller, my feedback of 313 should probably be around 450-500 if all of the buyers had left feedback. Can’t do much about it, and I won’t chase them.

I always withhold feedback until the buyer gets the item and all problems resolved.

As a buyer I could care less what the seller does with the feedback. There are a few sales that they never left feedback and I dont lose sleep over em.

Hi, I sell a lot of stuff on ebay and thoes guys drive me nuts!!! Once I’m paid it is then my place to leave posative feedback for the seller. If these sellers had any integrity they would not be afraid to do the same. So what I do with thoes people is leave them nothing or get ready to do battle and blast them. In a perfect world we wouldn’t have the problems with such sellers, I am sure you can check thier feed back and find a lot of dirt!! If your an Ebay seller leave feedback after receiving payment.

I had a seller leave me a neutral feedback by mistake, fatfingered the wrong entry…I sent them a email expressing my displeasure. I feel if a buyer pays on time then they should get feedback right then instead of seeing what feedback you give them. Childish

I just started on ebay and I’m seeing the same thing. I was expecting feedback after paying for the stuff I won and didn’t get it. And I usually pay within 15 minutes of the end of the auction, except for the middle of the night.

I think most of them are waiting to see what a buyer is gonna say.I’ve seen guys have WAY too high of an expectation on stuff they practically got for nothing, and then leave SCALDING feedback cause they’re not happy.I know I’ve left some beauties, but the sellers deserved it. One time my wife asked if she could use my account, she bought something, and just went to paypal and payed it without really looking at it.The item was a bassinette,it was 40 bucks…She thought the shipping said 9.00 dollars…IT WAS 90.00!!! I contacted her cause I thought it was a mistake,of course,it wasn’t. She informed me she was a lawyer from Boston, she sold the item too low,and JACKED UP THE PRICE OF THE SHIPPING to recoupe her loss, and good luck getting my money back!!! Well…WRONG GUY.[;)].2 weeks later,I had the cops at her house, investigating her for internet fraud!!![:D]

The other thing about the waiting for feedback is, that even if they left feedback for the buyer and the buyer left negative on theirs, the seller still has the ability to reply to the feedback left on his, to explain, negate or contradict what was left by the buyer. It seems like sellers that are not willing to leave feedback can not be very confident of their product/andor service.

Could also be that, since some of them sell so much, they don’t wanna waste their time posting feedback for people that don’t reciprocate…And it makes them more likely to do it.

So N-maniac, if I follow your line of thinking, should I not waste my time posting feedback for them, because I don’t want to waste my time if they don’t do the same? What you end up with is two people standing there staring at each other waiting for the other to offer his hand first and nothing happens because each is waiting for the other to go first so that they aren’t left out in the cold. When I have watched their auction, bid in good faith, and paid in a timely fashion; I have fulfilled my part of the bargain. I have no contractual obligation left-it has been fulfilled. Can you imagine if I went to my local hobby shop and purchased something and they had this philosophy? I am only going to be nice to customers after they say something nice to me? How is that to run a business? In defense to many of the companies on ebay, some are very quick to leave feedback, and I have often done business with them again, in fact sometimes seeking them out. The ones who treat me in this way- well lets just say maybe someone else will buy from them.

I leave feedback in batches for sales and only do it once every few weeks AND only on a return basis. Every one of my ads or invoices states that’s what’s going to happen. Not so I can retaliate for negative (which I don’t receive) but so IF there’s a problem, it can be worked out. I’ve seen too many feedback files where, the seller left positive for quick payments and the buyer left negative because he thought his 90¢ item should have been worth $900. Absolutely ridiculous. Leaving feedback on a return basis gives cause for people to stop and think a minute before being a hothead.

Good point, but unfortunately once a negative feedback is posted, it affects the feedback rating regardless of later comments. This affects sellers more than buyers, I’m thinking. While not a big deal, there are some folks that refuse to buy things from a person that has less than a 98 percent positive feedback rating. While buyers will shy away from a seller that has less than perfect feedback, I can only recall one or two sellers that would refuse a buyer based on feedback and that was limited to negative feedback rating or needing a certain number of positive feedbacks in order to accept personal checks.

I always check negative feedbacks on someone I haven’t purchased from before, and it is enlightening. I buyer will say “kit not complete” but the post says clearly “there are pieces missing” or “shipping is too high” when the post clearly states the shipping cost. If other feedback is good, I’ll buy from the person. I’ve also seen negative feedback left for sellers that are dated only 3 or 4 days after the close of the auction with “paid for item, still haven’t received it” comment. Of course I"m sure there are sellers out there that are terrible - I guess I’m lucky and after over 600 transactions haven’t run into any.

Yes, I agree that some folks probably don’t leave feedback first because they are not confident of their product, but I think there are those that are protecting themselves. I’ve started to see lots of posts which say "if for any reason you are unhappy please contact me so we can r

They withhold waiting to see if you’ll leave positive feedback first. I have a couple of items that I purchased with insurance and never received, after contacting the seller, they say they will look into it, so I give them the benefit of the doubt and after several emails time runs out to leave feedback and you don’t hear from them anymore. I tried contacting ebay, but when the item sold for $20 to $30 bucks you’re on your own. Yeah there are some dirty players out there.

Hey Randy, that’s not MY line of thinking,it’s what I think THEY’RE line of thinking is,I’ve never sold anything on ebay, just bought .I will say I’ve never gotten negative feedback from any seller I’ve given a positive…I’ve also never given them a reason not to.

It is called “holding feedback hostage”. It is a part of using eBay, just like sniping and high shipping. I don’t do it, but there is someone holding my feedback hostage right right now even though I used BIN and payed immediately. It can get frustrating at times, but oh well.

As a seller, I always leave feedback immediately upon payment. As a buyer, I refuse to leave feedback for a seller who does not have the same policy. I’ve had a few chase me down for it, actually. One proclaimed himself a feedback whore. He’s still waiting.

I buy and sell on e-Bay, but I’m not a professional at it.

When I’m buying, I try to post feedback when I have received the item and am satisfied. (Not satisfied as in ‘everything is perfect’, but satisfied in that I received what I bought and it is as the seller described.) This way, the seller knows I received the item and have no problems to resolve. The auction is completed.

When I am selling, I try to leave feedback for the buyer when I ship the item. This way, the buyer knows I have received his payment and his item is on the way. I do my very best to describe the items I sell, warts and all. The buyer knows what he is getting.

I had an instance a few months ago where the buyer paid right away with PayPal, but it was credit card payment, and I wasn’t accepting credit card payments through PayPal (that’s back when you had a CHOICE!). I wrote to him, explained that I didn’t have a business account with PayPal and couldn’t accept the credit card payment and asked him to send a different payment. HE FLAMED ME in his feedback!! Said I wouldn’t accept his money and refused to ship his item. This happened WITHIN 3 days of auction close! After a few go-arounds, and an appeal through e-Bay, we agreed to cancel the auction and retract the feedback. He wrote me later and said he thought I didn’t want to sell so he bought a similar item and didn’t want mine anymore. At least I got the negative feedback retracted.

BTW, I had to upgrade my PayPal account when PayPal made it mandatory to accept credit cards if you used PayPal. I haven’t put ANYTHING up for auction since then. When I do, I don’t think I will offer PayPal as a payment option. I don’t like HEAVY-HANDED Nazi tactics!!

Darrell, quiet…for now
