Actually, good point. Maybe the “crazy eBay” posts would be more appropriate over the diner, since that’s the purely social thread.
I was a one-time participant in the diner. Being a meteorologist I appreciated the weather banter. The thing I never could quite get my head around was the imaginary waitress(es?).
On the one hand I can see your point; that a lot of these threads tend to degenerate into long-winded tirades about the pros and cons of buying on eBay.
On the other hand, there is an obvious corollary to your principle as stated above:
If you don’t like the subject of the thread, then don’t read it. Let others waste their time as they choose.
No! Don’t everyone start putting your horn-hooks on eBay! You’ll flood the market, and we’ll have a melt-down of the global horn-hook market. X2F futures will tank! The presidential candidates will jump on the bandwagon, all pretending to know something about model railroading. Niel and Bergie will show up on CNN to explain to the baffled pundits just what’s going on.
Remember, it’s about supply and demand. Right now, demand is low, and it’s already in decline. If we simultaneously boost supply, we will invert the D/S ratio with the obvious consequences. Yeah, I’ve got a box of X2F’s, like many of us. Some are even new. But, I’m going to “take one for the hobby” and hold on to them, even though they will not be worth much for a long, long time to come.
No, stick with Kadee. The right coupler for your portfolio. The right coupler for your future.
I for one do not mind such posts, the intent is shown right in the subject. Don’t read it if it offends you!
Speaking of selling horn hooks, many years ago on some other forum someone mentioned selling a bunch on eBay, and this gave me the idea to try too. Like most modelers, I had been saving them for no particular reason and estimated I had around 500 of them. I placed them on my flatbed scanner and made a photo for the auction. Sold them for around $12.00! Someones’ trash is someone elses’ treasure!
now some rivet counter’s may puke, but since Fred’s Locomotive (and car) Repair Shop is a functional model shop soo to have a model build of it, there will be several scrap gons of old horn hooks on a scrap track once I start my conversions. I for one am hangign on to mine. however, if I think that the gons are almost perfect but they need just one more to be right, $3.50 with 1 cent shipping will be perfect!![:P]
Just had a look at his on-line “store”. One Athearn single chime horn for only 3.50! Just 6.50 for a pair of Blomberg truck sideframes! If he gets what he’s asking for the horn-hook, I can sell all mine and retire![(-D]
